DID YOU KNOW? 🤔
Grenada’s Quarantine Point wasn’t always a picnic spot or even called that!
Once known as Goat Point or Long Point, this secluded peninsula became a quarantine station in 1892, built to isolate patients with smallpox, yellow fever, and other diseases.
It later housed a leper settlement nearby, served as a rest house, and even became a World War I military camp for Windward Islands troops.
During the Grenada Revolution, it was used as a military base by the People’s Revolutionary Government, the camp was called Camp Boney, with its main building known as The Big House.
By the late 1980s, only the building foundations remained.
In 2002, the government leased the site to the Rotary Club for 33 years, transforming it into the Quarantine Station Recreational Park we know today; a peaceful spot with a powerful past. 🇬🇩✨
