Grenada, Carriacou, Petite Martinique and its dependencies are located in the eastern Caribbean, south of the Windward Islands and 100 miles north of Venezuela. Neighboring islands St. Vincent and the Grenadines lie to the north and Trinidad and Tobago lie to the South.
Average temperatures range from 75 degrees F to 85 degrees F (24 degrees C to 30 degrees C), with a cool breeze. The lowest temperatures occur between November and February. Although the climate is warm all year round, we do experience some seasonal changes depending on altitude. The dry season is between January and May and the rainy season is from June to December.
Calypso is the native music to our islands. Around the island you will hear a fusion of parang, reggae, dancehall and pop from cars and buses, shop fronts and even through the windows of people’s homes, especially during festival seasons. Ex tempore is also another popular art form where the musicians sing to a standard tune with impromptu lyrics.
You can get to Grenada by air and sea. Many cruise lines dock in our capital city of St. George and international and regional flights arrive and depart from the Maurice Bishop International Airport.
If you would like to continue on to our sister isles of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, you can take a short inter-island charter to Carriacou’s Lauriston Airport or travel there by ferry aboard Osprey Lines Ltd. which departs from the Carenage in St. George’s.
If you are sailing into Grenada, there are a variety of marinas where you can clear immigration and customs as well as dock and purchase supplies. Anchorage services are available at most inlets and bays. Please check with immigration for an updated list.
Importation of animals is prohibited without a permit. Health documents must be provided and the Government Veterinary Officer must be notified of the port of entry and the expected time of arrival. It is also important to note that Grenada has no venomous snakes.
Banks are open from 8am to 2pm from Mondays through Thursdays and 8am to 4pm on Fridays. Most supermarkets and shopping centers are usually open from 9am to 7pm while a select few open on Sundays.
Shops generally open from 8am to 4pm on Mondays through Fridays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. Craft and souvenir shops open on Sundays and Public Holidays when cruise ships are docked. Government offices are generally open from 8am to 4pm on Mondays through Fridays, but may be closed at 1pm for lunch.
It is advised that you check business operating hours of local retailers as some may differ.
There is a good representation of religious denominations in most towns and villages throughout the Spice Islands.
Hotels and car rental companies accept the major credit cards. Travellers cheques are accepted throughout the island. Our local currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC) but the US Dollar is accepted.
Banks will exchange EC$2.67 for US$1.00 cash and EC$2.68 for US$1.00 in travellers cheques. We advise that you exchange currency at banks, as lower exchange rates may not be found elsewhere.

The evenings can be much cooler and may sometimes require a light cover-up, depending on the season. If you are planning on visiting the countryside, waterfalls and hiking we recommend that you wear long trousers, long sleeve tops and suitable trekking/hiking shoes.
Swimwear is not permitted on main roads and in bars, restaurants and shops. Also, to differentiate between military personnel and civilians, law in Grenada prohibits civilians from wearing camouflage prints.
If you wish to drive while in Grenada, you must obtain a local driving permit from the traffic department at the Central Police Station on the Carenage. You must present a bonafide driver’s license along with a fee of EC$60.
Most car rental firms also issue local permits. Additionally, there is a network of approximately 650 miles of paved roads and most of the main roads are in good condition. Always remember that driving is on the LEFT.
The voltage on island is 220 volts – 50 cycles. Appliances rated at 110 volts (US Standard) normally work with a transformer. Most hotels provide dual voltage shaver units, but an adaptor plug is necessary for small appliances
If you are visiting our islands, you must have a valid passport and return or onward ticket. However, if you are a British, Canadian or US citizen, proof of citizenship bearing a photograph is acceptable. Please remember however, that as mandated by the United States Department of Homeland Security, all US travellers must provide a passport to enter or reenter the US for both vacation and business travel.
A visa is not required for citizens of the US, Canada, UK, British Commonwealth, South Korea, Japan and most Caribbean and European countries. It may be best to familiarize yourself with the complete list of persons requiring visas and persons exempt from visas.

You can visit any one of our post offices from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Thursday, and 8am to 4:30pm on Fridays. Our General Post Office is located, Burns Point, Saint George- adjacent to the Grenada Port Authority on the Carenage, Saint George’s. Sub post offices can be found in local towns and villages.
Federal Express, DHL and UPS provide additional postal services for local, regional and international mailing.
The removal of corals from the sea, wildlife from the forest or any national park, and rivers and debarking of trees is strictly prohibited.
