Carriacou Regatta

  Ask a Question

The Carriacou Regatta brings the story of the island’s rich traditional boat building history to life, a source of deep pride for the people.  Steeped in the Scottish influence on the island and passed down through generations of shipwrights, the highly skilled art of building traditional wooden sloops is kept alive by a few on the island especially in the village of Windward. The Carriacou Regatta has the distinction of being the longest running Caribbean Regatta since 1965 and while the main event is the beautifully crafted boats taking to sea in competitive racing, the onshore activities are equally exciting. Be sure to look out for donkey racing, the greasy pole, street parties, music and delicious island cuisine.
